A nurse who works in the store helps customers select the right type of mushroom for them, explaining that some are better for energy and focus while others help people relax. And a few shelves hold a variety of non-psychedelic mushrooms, such as shiitake and portobellos.
Other illegal psilocybin shops have opened in cities like Hamilton and Montreal, and some have been raided. But enforcement officials appear to be more concerned about fighting illicit trafficking of other drugs, such as opioids that are contributing to an overdose epidemic.
